
If a minor faction is supported a lot during the gameplay and grows in size/influence it might also be a way to unlock it for a new game later in Major faction form. I don't see a reason why different styles of gameplay couldn't all be done in the same game and based on an evolving faction theme (CK2 or EU4 as example with its different governments and religions, or even HoI4 with its option to change ideology and the WW2 focus tree). (not only as options for a new game/new leader design, but as unlocks for existing campaign) Imagine how the chosen path for your faction might allow new customization options for even your Commander/Leader: New military uniforms or a noble dress, mechanical implants or new banner gained after start of game, new hair style or genetically engineered eyes or four arms, and so on. ".but that would involve a different style of gameplay to make it work" Just as minor powers in Paradox games can become majors. Change during the game in behaviour could work not just for major but minor factions and I see no reason for why there couldn't be an overlap, or path from minor to major. Especially a lot of possibility if this is tied to the possible change in faction models/color/names during the game. Have a tech tree, mission tree, could adapt different ideologies or refine existing ones, or change focus, approach. Seeing the possibilities in PlanetFall as it might adapt pieces of existing mechanics from Paradox classics.Ī faction/nation can adapt to situation.
